Aldi is selling Jaffa Cake flavoured tea

Jun 15, 2023

Aldi has started selling a range of flavoured teas that take inspiration from biscuit tin staples - and shoppers are baffled by one that tastes like Jaffa Cakes

Forget the debate over whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit, as there's a new question dividing opinion among shoppers - is it weird to drink Jaffa Cake flavoured tea?

The question has been raised on social media after eagle-eyed Aldi shoppers noticed the discount supermarket selling a range of "biscuit teas" that take inspiration from several staples of the humble biscuit tin, including the chocolate and orange-flavoured cakey treat.

One shopper took to Facebook to share a picture of three boxes of tea that she purchased from Aldi and confessed that the products had caused a debate at the till over whether it was acceptable to put milk in the cuppa, or if the special flavours were best enjoyed without milk.

In a post on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, the woman revealed that alongside the Tastes Like Jaffa tea bags, she also picked up one named Tastes Like Biscuits and another titled Tastes Like Salted Caramel.

She wrote: "Found in Aldi tonight ... they are an actual line so not a special buy. Located by the normal tea bags. They have these 3 flavours for £1.49 a box and there's 40 in a box.

"A lady asked me tonight at the till if you can put milk with them like you would a normal cuppa tea, I told her I don't know actually because might ruin the flavour, but a guy behind her argued and said you can't put milk ... so I'm unsure (just in case anyone comments asking) but if anyone does know let me know!"

Commenters on the post were split over the tea bags, as while some said they wanted to try them, others were less than impressed by the idea of biscuit-flavoured tea.

One person said: "I got the Jaffa one had it last night it was really nice. I couldn't taste chocolate just orange and it was quite subtle but very nice, I put a small splash of skimmed milk in."

While another added: "I wanna try these!"

But someone else disagreed, writing: "Nah, tea should taste like tea."

And a fourth posted: "I can't get my head around these flavours."

There was also a debate about putting milk in the teas, but most seemed to agree it was down to personal preference, but as the teas are all black tea rather than green tea, it would be acceptable to add milk.
