The Super Mario Bros. Movie is headed to video on demand, and if you want a physical copy, pre-order the hit film on Blu-ray/DVD. The animated blockbuster — starring Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Jack Black as Bowser — has raked in more than $1 billion and counting.

Based on Nintendo's popular video game series, Super Mario Bros. follows Mario and Luigi as they set out on a "whirlwind adventure through Mushroom Kingdom." The brothers get separated, leaving it up to Mario to find and rescue Luigi from Bowser and save Mushroom Kingdom (with help from Princess Peach).

With its huge box-office opening, Super Mario Bros. surpassed Frozen as the highest grossing debut for an animated movie and stands as the highest-grossing movie of 2023 ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The animated hit held the No. 1 spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks.

When will The Super Mario Bros. Movie be released on streaming? According to Prime Video, the movie will be available to stream on the West Coast starting Monday (May 15) at 9 p.m. PT., while East Coasters can start streaming at midnight on Tuesday (May 16).

Based on other blockbusters, audiences might be waiting a little while to stream for free. Top Gun: Maverick, for example, was released to streaming platforms roughly three months after premiering in theaters but didn't land on Paramount+ until later December 2022. Similarly, Avatar 2 hit streaming around three months after the theater debut, but the film won't be released on Disney+ until June 7.

Either way, pre-ordering a copy of The Super Mario Bros. Movie will put you first in line to watch the movie from home as soon as it drops on VOD.
