With that in mind, our experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute have tested a variety of supermarket and luxury Christmas biscuit tins to find their favourites.

The Good Housekeeping Institute’s panel of experts and consumers tested 14 Christmas biscuit selections, presented in a variety of giftable tins.

Each was assessed on its aroma, taste and presentation. Our experts were looking for buttery bakes, with classic flavours and well-integrated ingredients – think chocolate chips, caramel or spices – to further enhance the festive bickie.

These are the best Christmas biscuit tins to buy for 2024.

Score: 96/100

Packaged in a retro keepsake tin, this luxurious biscuit selection would be a joy to give – and receive! An assortment of buttery shortbread lies inside (including chocolate orange, ginger and Swiss hazelnut flavours), making for very merry dunking indeed.

These beautifully iced biscuits by Cambridge-based bakery, Fitzbillies, are decorated with local landmarks. The ginger flavour is “deep, sweet and warming”, and our testers loved the “perfectly crunchy” texture.

And while they’re not technically presented in a tin, we’re not going to hold it against them.

This shortbread selection box is as classic as they come – filled with buttery soft biscuits that have a fine crumb and a generous sprinkle of caster sugar for sweetness and crunch. You can’t go wrong.

Cutter & Squidge only ever uses natural ingredients to create its delicious bakes, so it's the next best thing to making your own (and probably even tastier!).

The festive line-up includes spicy gingerbread men, cranberry and pistachio shortbread and melt in the mouth pain au chocolat cookies, among others. A modern take on a festive favourite.

Add an extra touch of magic this Christmas with Fortnum’s musical biscuit tin. Housing chocolate and caramel shortbread, the family-friendly gift plays “Jingle Bells” as it spins around and would be lovely to refill once you’ve devoured the goods.

Our panel thought the buttery bickies would be perfect for dunking in hot chocolate; in fact, they were so tasty, they’d have liked a few more in the tin!

Dukeshill’s traditional Scottish shortbread is the ultimate winter treat. Our testers described the rectangular slabs as “rich and buttery”, with a “homemade feel”. They’re packaged up in a simple blue tin, ready to gift.

For variety, Meg Rivers has you covered. Here, you’ll get to sample the brand’s classic shortbread, as well as chocolate chip, and floral lavender and honey, versions – all of which are handmade. Our panel enjoyed the touch of sea salt in the originals, and the shavings of dark chocolate chips.

This reusable biscuit tin is filled to the brim with classic, buttery shortbread, in an assortment of festive shapes. Perfect for traditionalists looking for a well-baked biscuit, their crowd-pleasing, delicate flavour will have you going back for just one more...

This decorative Christmas tree-shaped tin from Sainsbury’s contains rich, crumbly chocolate “present” biscuits. Testers enjoyed the warming spice and hint of sea salt, describing them as very “moreish”. We’ll be keeping a few tins on hand for last minute gifts.

No brand comes close to matching Biscuiteers’ intricately iced biscuits for presentation, and this seasonal tin contains 12 characters to represent the full nativity scene. Our panel described them as “extremely sweet”, with just a touch of warming spice, and thought this tin would make a fantastic gift.
