Watch how Syracuse’s most gravity

Dec 05, 2023

DEWITT, N.Y. - You may have seen the viral videos of trash can nachos, the Guy Fieri-made concoction that alternates layers of tortilla chips, queso and all sorts of toppings—all contained within a metal can.

For Central New Yorkers, the bus ride to Flavortown just got a whole lot shorter.

Rise N Shine Diner, already known for its over-the-top, Instagram-friendly food, unveiled the towering Tin Can Breakfast Pierogies earlier this month. With layers of scrambled eggs, griddled potato-filled pierogi, crumbled bacon, fried frizzled onions and cheese sauce, garnished with chopped green onions, it's not for the faint of heart. The ingredients are packed into a #10 can, which is then dramatically removed to reveal the striated layers of deliciousness.

Rise N Shine owner Danielle Mercuri said she was inspired to create the dish by watching the videos of the trash can nachos. For a restaurant where Mercuri said patrons are known to order not with the menu, but by pulling up the diner's Instagram on their phone and pointing to what they want, breakfast always comes with a spectacle.

The pierogies, which cost $10.99, are on their way to becoming a full-time menu item, Mercuri said.
